On December 1, 2018, the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill (District 7620) in conjunction with the Soles4Souls charity organization hosted a shoe drive in Alexandria, VA.  The event, kindly hosted by club member Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, held on Saturday December 1, 2018, collected more than one hundred (100) pairs of shoes for the charity. The new and gently worn shoes will be sent to help people start and sustain small businesses (a micro-enterprise: shoe stores) to one of the one hundred and twenty-seven countries that participate in the program.
The event was supported by fellow Rotarians from the Rotary Clubs of Mount Vernon, Metro Bethesda, and Alexandria Central.  In addition, the group was honored with the presence of Rotarian Bill Euille, former Alexandria City Mayor (2003-2016).
The President of the RCCH, Roxanne Suratgar, thanked the club members and fellow Rotarians for participating and making the evening a success and expressed a desire that the event be the first of many events where clubs both sides of the Potomac River collaborate. A special thanks goes to our host, to Diane Rish for managing the Silent Auction and Kip Knutson for welcoming the guests.
In the spirit of Rotary, it was a warm evening of fellowship while honoring the key concepts of “service above self” and “beneficial to others”.
