The Rotary Club of Capitol Hill was one of just six clubs (out of 68 Rotary Clubs) to win the 2011-2012 Governor's Gold Award during the 2012 District Conference in Cambridge, MD. This is the highest award a Rotary Club can win in its District.

From July 2011 to March 2012, the club membership had an awesome year.  The membership hosted three very successful fundraisers for local DC service projects and Rotary’s fight against Polio.  In fact, we raised three times more money this year than we did in the past 8 years!

For the second time in two years, the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill participated in Rotary International’s Future Vision Program for Humanity Service. The membership partnered with Rotary District 1990 (Southern Germany) and raised $90,000 (USD) to send German graduate students to Washington, D.C. to study peace and conflict resolution for two years.

The Rotary Club of Capitol Hill was also recognized as the number one Rotary Club in North America for selecting and sponsoring Rotary Peace Fellows.  Since 2006, the club has sponsored 12 Peace Fellows, and during this Rotary year we sponsored two additional Fellows.

Peace Fellows are scholars sponsored by Rotary International. They are leaders in promoting national and international cooperation and conflict resolution through service activities. Participants in this program earn either a master’s degree in international relations, public administration, sustainable development, peace studies, conflict resolution, or a related field, or a professional development certificate in peace and conflict resolution in at one of seven Rotary International Peace Centers in Argentina, Australia, Japan, Sweden, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

But the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill’s biggest accomplishment this year was sponsoring the Rotary Club of Dupont Circle (Washington, DC), which chartered on March 27, 2012 with 37 new Rotarians.
