Cellist Carrie Bean Stute graced our Rotary club meeting with live music and reflection on efforts to more fully engage communities in classical music. Carrie and her colleague, Efi Hackmey, are music directors of the chamber ensemble Chiarina, which brings high-quality chamber music performances and innovative programming to Capitol Hill, DC, and Montgomery County, MD. Their mission is to make live performances of great masterpieces accessible to the community at large, and to connect with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Carrie discussed new trends in classical music and how these efforts to engage communities in more common settings is reconnecting people to classical music as a learning tool. In addition to her chamber ensemble work, she is a member of the President’s Marine Corps band and delivers performances throughout D.C. Thank you, Carrie, for being a part of our morning meeting. We look forward to a return visit!
